Snow Leaves Travel Trouble Behind
Up To 4 Inches Of Snow Coats Central Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS -- A swath of snow began pushing out of Indiana late Sunday evening after dropping several inches of snow on central and northern portions of the state, causing travel troubles for motorists trying to get back home after the holiday.Snow tapered off slowly from west to east as darkness settled in Sunday evening. Snow fell heavily at times, cutting visibility significantly and making travel treacherous. The snow was spurred by a weak low-pressure system that skirted across the northern part of the state.Strong winds gusting up to 30 mph swept into the state overnight, causing some blowing and drifting of snow. Check Watches, WarningsIndiana State Police reported more than 80 crashes and slideoffs Sunday, including several on Interstate 65 near Lebanon. Main roads had been cleared, but side streets were still a problem on Monday morning.Road crews from the Indiana Department of Transportation and Indianapolis Department of Public Works had a full slate of drivers out to clear the roads.Temperatures hovered in the upper 20s Sunday, allowing snow to stick on untreated surfaces, and temperatures fell into the teens overnight.A few days of generally partly cloudy conditions will move in on Monday.A storm system that is expected to develop south of the state on New Year's Eve could affect Indiana, but the forecast could change quite a bit before then.Stay with Storm Team 6 and TheIndyChannel.com for the latest winter weather information.
