INDIANAPOLIS -- Had enough snow? You won't like what's in the forecast for Indiana. Two storm systems appear to be headed for the state, the first on Saturday and another more potent storm beginning late Sunday.February has already been a much snowier-than-average month in Indianapolis and across much of the state.
On average, Indianapolis gets 6.1 inches of snow in February. The city has already received 16.5 inches this month. The two storm systems expected in the coming days could add quite a bit to that total, threatening the record for most February snowfall in Indianapolis -- 21.7 inches -- recorded in 2003.A weak low-pressure system will slide into the state on Saturday, bringing a chance of light snow accumulations to central Indiana. The forecast could change quite a bit, but it appears a couple of inches could accumulate before the low-pressure system moves out of the area. The second storm system could be much stronger and will be much trickier to forecast. That low-pressure system will move south of the state and will tap into rich moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. It's still very early, but it appears that storm could dump several inches of snow in the Indianapolis area. However, warmer air could work into the system, causing some of that precipitation to fall as a wintry mix, which would hold down snow totals. That storm is expected to begin affecting the state on Sunday night and will linger throughout the day on Monday.High temperatures are expected to be near freezing each day through next Monday.Stay with Storm Team 6 and TheIndyChannel.com for the latest winter weather information.
