Autumnal Equinox
Kevin's Weather Blog
If you are patient, you can do it any time of year. I argue it's only fun though on the Equinox. I'm talking about balancing an egg on end!
Tuesday is the Autumnal Equinox. This marks the astronomical beginning of fall. The sun is directly above the equator.
On the equinox, the hours of daylight and darkness are nearly equal. Since the day is "balanced," some argue it's easier to stand an egg on end.
For the record, I've balanced an egg when the days are long and the nights are short. If you want to give this a try, just grab a raw egg out of the refrigerator and clear the kitchen counter. Be patient and demand everyone walk softly through the kitchen!
