Looking At Raindrops

Kevin's Weather Blog

With rain in the forecast, let's talk raindrops. Actually, let's look at raindrops.

Attention artists! They are not tear-shaped. The shape of a raindrop is influenced by its size.

Small raindrops are round. They are nearly circular.

Large raindrops are round on top and flat on the bottom. They look like an open parachute or a hamburger bun.

I did not discover this myself. I'm relying on my college textbook, Meteorology Today, written by C. Donald Ahrens.

Perhaps I should start my own Weather Scene Investigation unit. We could call it WSI Indianapolis!
