Talking Snow On A Sunny Day?

Kevin's Weather Blog

POSTED: 7:40 a.m. EST October 20, 2003

On this day when temperatures will push 80 degrees, I thought I would write about snow.

Don't worry I have a good reason.

Fourteen years ago on this date we made meteorological history. Our three-day snow total in Indianapolis was 9.3 inches.

The snow started on Oct. 18 and ended Oct. 20.

This was a very unusual snow for two reasons. First, this was the earliest measurable snowfall in Indianapolis' history. Second, no one had to shovel. No snowplows had to hit the road. The snow was melting quickly on contact with the warm ground.

So, this early season snow raised eyebrows, but not our shovels!
