Cup Of Joe?

Kevin's Weather Blog

A warm drink on a cool day is often a good combination.

Perhaps you enjoy coffee. If so, you will enjoy this story.

Two weeks ago I was Master of Ceremonies for the Central Indiana Navy Ball.

The guest speaker for the night was Mr. Danny Harter. He was asking trivia questions of those in attendance.

His first question was about the origin of the saying "cup of Joe."

Everyone sat silently sipping coffee without providing an answer.

Mr. Harter explained that the consumption of alcohol was prohibited on board Navy vessels by the Secretary of the Navy, Josephus "Joe" Daniels on June 1, 1914. So a cup of coffee became known in the U.S. Navy and across the country as a "cup of Joe."
