INDIANAPOLIS - Light snow coated most of central Indiana early Saturday morning, with more snow expected later in the day.
A weak storm system quickly tracked into Indiana from the west, bringing light snow to the region by early Saturday morning.
Light snow fell in Indianapolis before dawn, with 1.3 inches of new snow reported at Indianapolis International Airport.
The bulk of the snow is expected to fall during the afternoon hours.
The snow is expected to be light, and accumulations will be limited to 1 to 3 inches, with the highest totals expected east and southeast of Indianapolis.
"It will be a light and fluffy snow, but if you have travel plans into Saturday evening, just know that there could be some slick spots," Klaassen said.
The storm system will move out of the area on Saturday evening, taking the accumulating snow with it.
Temperatures will stay below freezing on Sunday before a slight warm-up begins early next week, with a couple more weak storm systems expected next week that will bring a chance of snow and/or rain.
