INDIANAPOLIS -- This is Severe Weather Preparedness Week, so Indiana is testing its tornado sirens twice on Tuesday.

You may hear a tornado siren at 7:35 p.m. There will also be tests of the emergency alert system on TV and on radio. A morning drill sounded at 10:15 a.m.

The morning test was primarily for people at work or school. The second is for people at their homes.

“Severe Weather Preparedness Week is designed to refresh, remind and educate everyone about the threats from severe weather and how to avoid them," EMA Administrator Dennis Peters said. "It’s important to practice seeking secure, safe shelter from severe weather and we encourage you to talk to your family about what to do in an emergency.”

Indiana usually averages 20-21 tornadoes per year, but there were 35 tornadoes in 2016.
