Parks, roads closed to flooding from Tuesday storms; Travel advisories issued

INDIANAPOLIS -- Many parks and roads, especially those in lower areas, were closed Tuesday due to flooding.

As much as 5 inches of rain has been reported in Indianapolis and the surrounding areas, leading to the declaration of a Flash Flood Warning.

Carroll, Cass, Howard, Johnson and Owen counties are under a travel advisory. 

The yellow advisory means routine travel should be restricted, and people should use caution.

Johnson County

In Greenwood, Honey Creek Road was closed north of Stones Crossing, due to flooded waters.

In Franklin, Indiana, the following roads were closed due to flooding: 

  • Earlywood
  • South Street
  • South Main
  • Areas of Knollwood

Franklin Community Middle School was open for anybody who needed shelter from the flooding or storms. 

Hamilton County

In Fishers, high water was reported on many roads. 

Also in Hamilton County, Promise Road between 181st and 186th streets was closed, as well as Cumberland Road between 166th Street and Greenfield Avenue. Other roads that were closed include:

  • Olio Road south of 156th Street 
  • Cyntheanne Road between 146th Street and 156th Street
  • Flippins Road between 191st Street and 196th Street

Carmel has seen not only high water, but some damage from the storms. A tree fell into a house on Terrents Court, just southeast of the intersection of Main Street and Spring Mill Road.

Hendricks County

Ellis Park in Danville was closed due to high water. The water nearly reached a walking bridge in the park.
