Severe storms could fire up Thursday along a cold front that will drop low temperatures into the 50s across central Indiana.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire state in a slight risk zone for severe weather.

After a cloudy start to the day, thunderstorms are expected to begin moving into the state as early as 2 p.m., reaching Indianapolis by 7 p.m.

The greatest threat will be damaging winds and large hail.

The system could also bring some beneficial rain across the state.

So far this month, 4.20 inches of rain has been recorded in Indiana, making August the wettest month of the year after a hot, dry summer.

Temperatures will reach 90 degrees in Indianapolis on Thursday afternoon before dropping into the 70s Friday.

Nightly lows will plunge into the 50s, where they'll remain through next week.
