INDIANAPOLIS -- From massive snowstorms to severe weather to big temperature swings, the end of November can throw all sorts of weather at us.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) estimates that 48.7 million Americans will travel over 50 miles to a destination this Thanksgiving.  Of that number, 43.5 million will take to the roadways while the others will mainly fly to their destination.

With so many people traveling, let's take a look at some of the Thanksgiving weather stats and the forecast leading up to and including Thanksgiving Day itself.

Now it is important to remember, unlike Christmas, Thanksgiving falls on a different date each year.  The coldest Thanksgiving on record is way back in 1930 when it was only 14 degrees.

On the flip side, the warmest Thanksgiving on record was 69 degrees back in 1973.

Snow has fallen on several occasions, most recently in 2014.  The most snow, however, was way back in 1902 when 2.4” fell.  The most rain was in 2012 with 1.45”.

There will be a few weather systems moving across the country next week.

Here is how things break down as of Thursday afternoon:

Wednesday:  A storm system will be moving out of the midwest and into the northeast.  Locally we could have a lingering shower or two but nothing major in Indiana.  To the north, lake-effect snow will be possible in Michigan  In the northeast some snow will be possible in the Adirondack Mountains but all the major cities will see rain.  The big weather issue both Wednesday and Thanksgiving will be the Pacific Northwest.  A big storm system could bring flooding rains with heavy mountain snows if you are flying that way.

Thanksgiving Day:  With the exception of the “big” pacific northwest storm it will be fairly quiet across the country.  Some thunderstorms are possible in the south but no severe weather is expected.  In Indiana, skies look to be partly cloudy with highs in the low 40s.
