Top 6 things you should do before the winter storm

INDIANAPOLIS - With another winter storm slated to hit Indiana, threatening to bring more than a foot of snow to some areas, here are some steps to take to make sure you're prepared for the snow and the bone-chilling cold that will follow it.

No. 6: Clear the snow already on the ground from around fire hydrants. This ensures that fire crews can get access to water quickly in the event of a fire.

No. 5: Remove the snow already on the ground from your sidewalks and driveways. With more snow on the way, it will be much easier to do this now than to wait.

No. 4: Prepare your vehicle by making sure you have plenty of windshield wiper fluid and at least a half tank of gas.

No. 3: Equip your vehicle. Make sure you have jumper cables in your vehicle, along with blankets, extra clothing, gloves, scarves, toboggans etc.

No. 2: Recharge your devices and make sure you have batteries available. There is the potential for power outages. You should recharge your cellphones before the storm and recharge any batteries used to power other devices.

No. 1: Make sure you have enough food in your home. There is the potential that travel will be restricted, possibly for days after the storm because of the extreme cold.
