DALEVILLE, Ind. - At least three people were killed when an SUV left a rural eastern Indiana road and rolled over, ejecting several occupants.

Delaware County dispatcher Adam Garrett confirmed the three fatalities from the single-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon near the town of Daleville, about 40 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

Garrett said surviving passengers were taken to several hospitals.

The Star Press of Muncie reported that at least one of the victims was a child. Two adults and four children were in the SUV when it left a county road, struck large boulders and flipped over.

The crash ejected several occupants from the vehicle and trapped others.

Authorities studied the wreck for clues to what led to the crash.

"This is the first one in my career that I've seen with this casualty level," said Cpl. Tony Skinner.

Delaware County officials said the SUV traveled at speeds exceeding 70 mph.

"She drove off the road and when she corrected, the vehicle over-corrected and that happens a lot. People drive off the right and they try to stir back to the left real quick and the vehicle starts sliding," said Lt. Arlan Johnson over the phone.

Authorities said Kent Kalley, 47, of Yorktown, died along with his girlfriend, Lisa Case, 47, of Anderson.

Andrew Lackey, a seventh-grader, also died, authorities said.

The three other children and family friends were airlifted to hospitals with serious injuries, authorities said.

The injured victims were identified as Savanna Kalley, 13, Trace Joiner, 13, and Jessica DeLong, 12.

Authorities said they plan to get a warrant to retrieve the airbag control module. They hope it will reveal what may have caused the tragic crash.
