Northbound Interstate 69

All lanes of northbound Interstate 69 were closed following a fatal crash during Monday afternoon's rush hour.

The crash happened near mile marker 204, close to 96th Street.

The Indiana State Police confirmed Michael Peed, 38, of Fishers, was killed in the accident.

Preliminary investigation and witness statements revealed that Peed was driving a Honda Civic and was sitting still in traffic in the right lane, waiting to exit to 116th Street.

Evidence indicated that the driver of a Toyota Camry, for an unknown reason, failed to realize that traffic had stopped and struck the back of Peed's car, police said.

The force of the crash sent Peed's vehicle into a Chevrolet Cobalt in front of it, police said.

Peed's car then veered to the left in front of a semi and was struck in the driver's door.

The semi veered to the left in an attempt to miss Peed's car, and struck a Chevrolet Suburban.

Peed's vehicle came loose from the semi and crossed all lanes again and came to rest in the right lane, police said.

Peed was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hamilton County Coroner's Office.

Two other people involved in the crash were transported to local hospitals for minor pains.

No other injuries were reported.

Police  diverted traffic off I-69 onto 96th Street.

Officials with the Indiana State Police confirmed that I-69 lanes reopened just before 8 p.m.
