FRANKLIN, Ind. - Federal investigators raided the home and office of a Johnson County business owner on Thursday as part of an investigation into the safety of his products.
Agents spent several hours Thursday at Complete Hydraulic Services in Franklin, where they interviewed several employees before removing computers and boxes full of records.
Call 6 Investigator Rafael Sanchez learned that the target of the investigation is the business' owner, Randy Brown.
For several months, the Call 6 team has received tips that Brown has misled customers with altered hydraulic vehicle lifts. Sources said people working underneath vehicles held by the lifts could be crushed because the lifts can't hold the promised weight.
The lifts were allegedly tampered with because Brown ran into financial problems and did no have the right parts.
While the FBI gathered evidence at his business, Sanchez visited Brown's home, though no one answered the door.
The tampered-with vehicle lifts were reportedly sold across the country. Former employees said they were not surprised to hear about the FBI investigation.
Brown did not return repeated requests for comment.
"We cannot confirm or deny an investigation and will have no further comment," U.S. Attorney's Office spokesman Tim Horty said when asked about the investigation.
