GREENFIELD, Ind. - A gas station clerk in Greenfield was held hostage at knifepoint during an attempted robbery late Wednesday, police said.
The incident happened just before midnight at the Speedway gas station in the 1200 block of North State Street.
Greenfield Police said when they arrived at the store, a man was standing in the parking lot holding a knife. Police asked him to drop the knife, but he refused. Officers then used a Taser to subdue the suspect, who was identified as 35-year-old Brandon Hendrickson.
The clerk told police that Hendrickson came into the store and demanded money from the register and forced her behind the counter at knifepoint. She pressed the panic button, which notified police. After the register was opened, Hendrickson told the clerk he was taking her with him, police said.
Sgt. J.D. Fortner said Hendrickson was attempting to force the clerk into his vehicle when police arrived at the scene.
"(Hendrickson) was a regular customer of the store. (The clerk) said he comes in almost daily, so she was familiar with him. She didn't know him by name, but she was familiar with him," Fortner said.
The clerk suffered minor injuries. Hendrickson was taken to Hancock Regional Hospital for minor injuries sustained from the Taser.
Police said Hendrickson faces several charges and the case remained under investigation.
