INDIANAPOLIS - Police were investigating after a pizza delivery driver was fatally shot on the city's south side Friday night.
The incident happened in the 4100 block of Continental Court, near East Street and Hanna Avenue, just after 7 p.m., officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.
The Papa John's driver delivered the pizza to a customer at the Capital Place Apartments. Sources said that customer finished the pizza and went to throw the empty box away and found the wounded driver on the ground by a dumpster.
Nearby residents told police they heard one gunshot.
The male victim was rushed to Eskenazi Health by ambulance, but was later pronounced dead. Police identified the victim as Daniel Jaffke, 30, of Indianapolis.
"What I would say to those that are desperate, it's not worth this. You couldn't possibly get much money from these gentlemen that are out working and the women who are out doing this type of job. To take a life over a small amount of money or food just isn't worth it," IMPD Lt. Chris Bailey said.
Police said they were still searching for a suspect or suspects. Officials said the Jaffke's car was stolen during the incident but was recovered Saturday morning in the 1600 block of South East Street.
