Irsay previously focus of investigation involving painkillers

Colts owner admitted struggles in 2003

INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was previously the focus of an Indiana Attorney General investigation involving painkillers.

Call 6 Investigator Rafael Sanchez broke that story in 2006. In 2003, Irsay admitted he had an addiction to painkillers that stemmed from a back injury.

"People identify you as a human being that has human struggles like everyone else," Irsay said in 2003. "I've done everything that I need to do to take care of it and put it behind me.

The state's 2006 investigation focused on health professions that were providing the painkillers. Indianapolis pharmacist Charles Lindstrom and Dr. Gregory Chernoff faced official complaints for providing Irsay with painkillers with no medical purpose in 2001.

Lindstrom's license was put on probation in 2007, and the same happened to Chernoff in 2008.

Both Lindstrom and Chernoff completed their probations and were cleared.
