Man arrested in Fishers apt. break-in near 116th Street and Cumberland Road

Justin Morefield, 24, taken into custody

FISHERS, Ind. - A man was arrested in Fishers early Wednesday after police suspected him of a break-in at a couple's apartment in the 10100 block of Breezy Point Drive.

Police said Justin Morefield, 24, of Noblesville, was taken into custody after police found him hiding inside a bedroom closet at an apartment in the Sand Creek Woods complex.

The couple inside the apartment was sleeping during the break-in. They hid in the bathroom and called police when they heard the intruder.

Detectives said Morefield was hiding in the apartment after jumping out of a vehicle during a traffic stop near 126th Street and Promise Road about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said three people including Morefield were inside the vehicle. When officers pulled the vehicle over for expired tags, Morefield jumped out and ran away.

About five hours later, police got a call about a suspicious person spotted at the Chase Bank near 116th Street and Cumberland Road, followed by another call about a break-in at the Sand Creek Woods Apartments.

Police said Morefield may have broken into the apartment just to keep warm because the couple didn't report anything stolen.

"Obviously, it (was) very cold out this morning and he has been out in the cold weather for 5 hours. It is possible that he was trying to get in out of the cold weather," Sgt. Tom Weger said.

Morefield was taken into custody at the Fishers Police Department and could face several charges.
Investigators say Morefield could also be linked to several car break-ins in the area and asked anyone with information to contact the Fishers Police Department at 317-595-3300.
