CORYDON, Ind. - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the death of a caver on private property near Corydon Saturday.
Just before 6 p.m. Saturday, Harrison County dispatchers were alerted to an unresponsive man in a cave located off Steam Engine Road. The victim was part of a group of experienced cavers exploring Blowing Hole Cave, a portion of Binkley's Cave system.
Despite CPR efforts by fellow cavers, attempts to revive the victim were unsuccessful. Conservation officers were coordinating a recovery effort Saturday night.
The victim was identified as 49-year-old Timothy McLain of Brownsburg, Ind. An autopsy performed Sunday concluded that McLain died as a result of cardiac arrest, a medical examiner said.
Officers described conditions in the cave as "treacherous," including chest deep water, strenuous crawls and tight crevices.
