PD: Rape suspect Aaron King mistakenly released from jail

King, 24, accused in Ball State rape

DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. - A Carmel man accused of raping a Ball State University student was mistakenly released from the Delaware County Jail.

Aaron King, 24, is charged with rape, criminal deviate conduct, criminal confinement and strangulation in an incident involving his ex-girlfriend.

King had been held in the Delaware County Jail on $60,000 bond until last Wednesday. He posted the bail and was released, even though Hamilton County officials had signed a detainer notice indicating that he should be kept behind bars.

"We're making every effort to make sure Mr. King is brought back to jail.  We are doing our best to try to figure out where the breakdown in communication was so it doesn't re-occur.  We are actively looking for Mr. King.  We've asked that he turn himself in to answer for the charges.  If he doesn't choose to do that, we are actively searching for him in hopes of having him back in custody as quickly as possible," a police spokesman said.

King has to serve a 361-day sentence for a prior conviction of battery against law enforcement.
