Pedestrian struck, killed on city's northeast side

Gregory Whitsey, 62, killed while crossing street

INDIANAPOLIS - A pedestrian was struck and killed on the northeast side Monday night, police said.

The accident happened near 38th Street and Post Road just after 9 p.m. when a man was trying to cross the street.

Police later identified the victim as Gregory Whitsey, 62, of Indianapolis.

Police said the driver, a 29-year-old Indianapolis man, stayed on the scene and was cooperating with investigators. The driver told police he didn't see Whitsey in the road.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, but the driver did have a voluntary blood draw, police said.

Metro police spokesman Kendale Adams said speed wasn't believed to be a factor either.

"I don't think there's anything suspicious (about this crash)," Adams said.
