PLAINFIELD, Ind. - Police shot and killed a burglary suspect during a home invasion late Tuesday night in Plainfield, officials said.
The shooting happened in a residential area near Andrews Boulevard and U.S. 40 just before 10 p.m.
Police said a resident of the home called 911 just after 9:30 p.m. from a bedroom after she heard people in her home.
Police said officers heard yelling when they responded to the call. The initial crew responding comprised a Hendrick's County sheriff's deputy and a Plainfield Police Department sergeant. As they arrived, one male was armed and raised his firearm, authorities said.
The deputy and sergeant said they fired shots at the man and he was later pronounced dead. His autopsy is scheduled for later Wednesday and investigators have not yet made his identity public.
A second male was taken into custody, police said. He was identified Wednesday just before noon as Justin D. Pearson, 30. Police said a preliminary charge of robbery was filed against Pearson and he is being held at the Hendricks County Jail.
No police officers or any of the three residents were injured in the incident.
