Mystics Fire Tree Rollins; Kenlaw Takes Over

POSTED: 2:22 pm EDT July 19, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Washington Mystics fired Wayne "Tree" Rollins on Saturday, one day after the club was blown out by 37 points at home against the Detroit Shock.

Rollins joined the organization in 2006 as an assistant before taking over the head spot for Richie Adubato in June of 2007.

However, Rollins was released with the Mystics in the midst of a disappointing 8-14 season. The squad has dropped six of its last eight contests and sits in fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

"We appreciate all of Tree's efforts on behalf of the Mystics and wish him the best in his future endeavors," said Washington general manager Linda Hargrove.

Rollins recorded 2,542 blocks, 6,249 points and 6,750 rebounds in 18 seasons in the NBA.

Taking over on the bench for Rollins on an interim basis will be assistant coach and scouting director, Jessie Kenlaw.

"We feel that Jessie's high energy and discipline approach to the game will inspire our team," said Hargrove.

Kenlaw has coached in the WNBA for the last eight seasons. Before coming to Washington, she served on the benches for the Houston Comets and the Seattle Storm.
