Indy nursing home restricting visitors to combat spread of coronavirus

INDIANAPOLIS — A large Indianapolis nursing home provider is taking extra precautions and placing restrictions on visitors to help combat the spread of the COVID-19.

American Senior Communities is temporarily limiting visitation at all locations to between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. so they can be screened before being allowed to visit.

Visitors must meet the following criteria to be allowed to visit:

  • Must not exhibit signs and symptoms of respiratory infection, such as fever, cough, and sore throat.
  • Must not have been in contact with someone with or under investigation for COVID-19.
  • Must not have traveled internationally within the last 14 days to restricted countries.

Restricted visitors who would like to make special arrangements to visit their loved ones can contact the Executive Director.

The following statement was released to RTV6 from American Senior Communities:

The health and wellness of our residents and employees are our highest priorities. In response to the global spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the emerging potential threat in the US, Indiana and neighboring states, a task force has been formed to implement precautionary measures to help ensure the safety of all those within our care. Below are some of the items the task force has already, or are in the process of, implementing.

  • Developed COVID-19 resource manual which includes response summary and infection control training guide
  • Held training webinars companywide
  • Developed action plans and Quality Assurance tools
  • Letters to vendors and visitors limiting service hours and points of entry are being distributed
  • Developed resident, employees, vendor and visitor screening tools
  • Emergency preparedness team are updating plans related to COVID-19

As this fluid situation evolves, American Senior Communities as the manager and Health and Hospital Corporation as the licensee of the eighty plus facilities will follow the CDC, State and Local health authorities’ recommendations and mandates closely.
