INDIANAPOLIS — The home of countless dance parties, drag shows, and local concerts in Fountain Square has had its final weekend of entertainment.

Pioneer, situated at 1110 Shelby Street, is closed, according to owner Bryce Caldwell.

Despite the consistent interest in the local event favorites, such as 'Low Pone,' and 'Spellbound,' Caldwell says they were "just hammered" with scheduling pressures.

"These things are always difficult," Caldwell said. "I don't feel good about the way we had to do things, but at the same time, you know, it had to be done."

Caldwell says at the beginning of the year, he felt he had to make the call to close things down soon, but had to get through Tonic Ball, Buzz/Cut, and Chreece.

"What I was most worried about was our showrunners, but I'm positive that they will be granted with new opportunities," Caldwell said.

Caldwell says he felt supported during his time in Fountain Square.

"I just want to express my gratitude to everyone who supported us. The neighborhood, the vendors ... everyone," Caldwell said.

Low Pone founder Carrie Keel says that Low Pone will continue, and they are currently seeking another venue for the new year.

Organizers with Spellbound posted on social media Monday to inform fans they will continue performances at The White Rabbit Cabaret.

In the meantime, Caldwell is positive that someone will bring new life to the Fountain Square venue, and that his bartenders will have no problem finding new ventures.

"I think someone with more resources and more reach could make a larger impact," Caldwell said. "Most of our bartenders are very good and will find a job.
