INDIANAPOLIS — From super heroes to superstar, to a queen and a vice president - the Oscars will have a little something for every type of movie fan on Sunday.

But which film will be named the best of the best?

Eight films are nominated for the Best Picture Oscar this year:

  1. BlacKkKlansman
  2. Black Panther
  3. Bohemian Rhapsody
  4. The Favourite
  5. Green Book
  6. Roma
  7. A Star Is Born
  8. Vice

Consider this: Black Panther's $700 million U.S. take is more than the other eight nominees combined. Although, Bohemian Rhapsody has now cleared more than $640 million internationally.

What about Black Panther? It's awesome, absolutely. It has changed the way super hero movies will be made going forward, and surely is worthy of it's Best Picture nomination. But, I don't think it'll win the big award. It has surely changed the conversation.

So, what about the rest of the bunch?

Let me just rattle through the middle of the pack, and why they will not be winning best picture.

  • BlacKkKlansman: smart but too political.
  • Green Book: Nice movie, but too cliche.
  • Roma: Beautifully shot, but too slow.
  • Vice: Great individual performance, but not well-assembled.
  • Bohemian Rhapsody: A ton of fun, but too simple in its execution.

That leaves the final two: The Favourite and A Star Is Born.

Let's start with my favorite movie - which happens to be The Favourite.

The film was funnier than I ever expected. It's brilliant mix of Victorian period drama with naught dark humor, turned out to be a perfect combination.

But great movies are about moments. Great movies move you, give you the chills. There was only one film that left me speechless when the losing credits rolled.

A Star Is Born is my pick for Best Picture of the year.

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper form a near-perfect duo in this fourth incarnation of a classic hollywood tale.

But it's the music, the love story, the intimate connections that put this movie to the top.
