MARTINSVILLE, Ind. -- One of the most popular sweet treats at Christmastime is the candy cane.

And they make a lot of them during 'cane season' at the Martinsville Candy Kitchen. 29,000 last year alone.

The shop and much of its equipment dates back nearly 100 years.

John Badger and his wife, Pam, bought the Candy Kitchen in 2004.

"We was at a historic meeting and they said they was gonna close down, and we was both born and raised here, and we didn't want to see it close down," said Badger.

The Badgers learned the recipes and perfected the hand-made process.

They create all kinds of shapes, sizes and flavors of candy canes but say peppermint still outsells them all.
