INDIANAPOLIS — A local restaurant stepping up to help support Indianapolis' Black Lives Matter group.

Hoagies and Hops in the Butler Tarkington neighborhood announced a portion of their sales on Tuesday would go directly to that organization. They are expecting long lines and lot of sales as the restaurant vows to donate 50 percent of their proceeds to Indy 10 Black Lives Matter.

One by one the orders keep coming in. Each sandwich is about more than just lunch on this day. Today they're about justice and fighting for change.

"Honestly, it's really important to me," Ronald Walker, manager of Hoagies and Hops, said. "Just being a black man, I will be 49 years old here shortly, and just over the years you know you just see a lot of the stuff that goes on."

Walker said they were looking for a way to support the Black Lives Matter movement.

"To help keep the community moving forward," Walker said.

This was one way to do it. It got the attention of people all over the city.

Melissa McGinley drove up from the south side for it.

"With all that has happened, specifically Dreasjon Reed here in Indy and George Floyd, I just want to do what I can and try to do my part to help them get justice for their families," McGinley said.

McGinley said she's been at protests and made her own donations to certain organizations but knows there's a lot more to be done. She said seeing businesses now get involved gives her hope for the future.

"It says a lot that people are not just going to forget or just let this go or just say, 'OK, we'll we've done enough,' you know," McGinley said. "It says something that people are still invested in it they are not just going to give up until they get justice for some of these families."

"I just hope it helps the future for our children so that way they don't have to endure a lot of the things that myself have endured and then obviously some of the stuff that other people, other families have endured as well," Walker said.
