COLUMBUS — A 36-year veteran of the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department is retiring and he's taking his K9 partner with him.
Sergeant Kris Weisner and Bolt have been together four-years, working in the department's Road Patrol Division.
Sheriff Matt Myers had nothing but praise for the deputy.
"I want to personally thank Deputy Weisner for his outstanding achievements while serving the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office," said Myers. "His professionalism and expertise greatly enhanced the readiness of those who worked with and around him. Kris is a true public servant."
Weisner held a number of positions within the sheriff's department from jailer, to process server and finally as a merit deputy sheriff and K9 handler in the Road Patrol Division.
In retirement, Bolt will continue to live with Weisner.
The eight-year-old dog and the deputy sheriff were honored during a ceremony in Columbus -- both receiving retirement badges.
