Body Found Outside Purdue Residence Hall

Service Worker Finds Body

Authorities are trying to determine the identity of a man who was found dead behind a Purdue University residence hall for graduate students.

University spokeswoman Jeanne Norberg said a service worker discovered the body at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday near the loading dock of Hawkins Hall in the southeastern section of the West Lafayette campus.

Norberg said Purdue police and the Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office were working to determine the man's identity.

The coroner's office said foul play was not suspected in the man's death and that further information may not be released until Thursday.

"There is no reason to believe there is any ongoing threat to our campus community," said Purdue Police Chief John Cox in a statement.

Norberg told 6News that she doesn't know how old the man is. Emergency responders did not find any identification on the man.

The university did not send out a campus-wide alert because campus police did not suspect foul play.
