School board votes to terminate Tri-West teacher, coach accused of sexual misconduct

HENDRICK COUNTY — The North West Hendricks school board voted unanimously to terminate Tri-West High School teacher and coach Tyler Bruce.

Bruce is accused of sexual misconduct with a then 16-year old student.

On Wednesday night, the school board voted unanimously to terminate Burce, said Donna Petraits, communications consultant for the board, in press release.

Brad Williams, Bruce's uncle, was the only board member to abstain from voting.

The board met at 6:30 p.m. at Tri-West Middle School to vote on Bruce’s discipline as well as the new superintendent, Dr. Scott Syverson’s contract with the district.

The meeting was open to the public but was limited to 50 people in total.

Bruce is charged with child seduction and obstruction of justice, and his trial is scheduled for April 29.

He’s currently on unpaid suspension with the district but spent months on paid leave.
