INDIANAPOLIS – A Fishers gas station employee who confronted a suspected shoplifter will not face charges.

Manager of the BP gas station on State Road 37 and 131st Street, Ahmad Al-Rafie, approached 23-year-old Steven Robinson armed outside of the store June 20 when he suspected him of shoplifting.

Robinson left the scene but was later arrested. Al-Rafie was also taken into custody initially under investigation for possible misuse of his weapon to recover property.

Surveillance video released by authorities helped Al-Rafie clear his name.

The video shows Al-Rafie lift his shirt to show Robinson he was armed but he never pulled out his weapon, so no criminal charges were filed.

“I have a permit for it, but I never touched it and I never pulled it out,” said Al-Rafie. “I just showed it like ‘stop, don’t try to do anything funny or run my guy over.’”

Al-Rafie said he is still waiting to recover his weapon from Fishers police.
