INDIANAPOLIS — There have been three new deaths and more than 200 new cases of the coronavirus COVID-19 confirmed in Indiana since Sunday.

New numbers posted by the Indiana State Departement of health list 1,786 confirmed cases across the state. This includes numbers from tests performed by ISDH and results submitted to the ISDH from private laboratories. The state health department has conducted more than 11,500 tests so far, although thousands more have likely been tested in labs outside the ISDH facilities.

A majority of the cases in Indiana come from Marion County where 804 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 12 others have died from complications of the virus.

As the numbers in Indiana continue to increase, Surgeon General Jerome Adams added Indianapolis to the list of "emerging hotspots" for COVID-19 along with New Orleans, Chicago, Detroit, LA and Miami.

Across the globe, more than 725,000 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed by medical testing and more than 34,800 people have died from complications of the virus, including nearly 11,000 deaths in Italy, over 7,00 in Spain and more than 3,000 in China. In addition to deaths, more than 156,000 people have recovered from the virus across the globe — nearly half of the recoveries are in China, which is believed to be ground-zero for the outbreak.
