INDIANAPOLIS — The number of Hoosiers filing first-time unemployment claims rose above 20,000 in the week ending July 25.

The number of claims for the week ending July 25 was 20,609.

The prior week's adjusted total was 17,911, the lowest number since the start of the pandemic in mid-March. It was also the first time the claims dropped below 20,000 since that time.

With the exception of the week of June 27, the number of claims in Indiana remained in the 20,000s since early May before dropping two weeks ago.

In the 19 weeks since the COVID-19 pandemic began, about 930,000 Hoosiers have filed for unemployment.
