INDIANAPOLIS — Face coverings are now required in public places statewide, and Marion County has shut down bars and is limiting capacity in other areas.

So, are these measures enough to slow the spread of COVID-19 once again? RTV6 asked an expert at the Regenstrief Institute.

"I think we're hopeful that these measures will help to slow the growth of the virus because, as we all know now, we're seeing an increase in that test positive rate which is concerning," Dr. Shaun Grannis at Regenstrief Institute said.

Dr. Grannis says we can expect to know if the new measures put in place are working in about the next two weeks. He also says evidence and studies continue to show that face masks and social distancing cut down on community spread and hopes people know that if we follow the guidelines, we can get back to some sense of normalcy quicker.

"During the first phase in March, April, May.. we showed that Hoosiers know how to slow down the spread of coronavirus and I think we are ready, prepared, and armed with great information to slow the spread," Dr. Grannis said.

The Regenstrief Institute has a COVID-19 dashboard where they compile data from across the state. It breaks the information down by county; that way, you know exactly how coronavirus is impacting your community.
