INDIANAPOLIS — With so few people flying due to the pandemic, airlines are facing major challenges.
Friday, Indianapolis-based Republic Airways announced it is laying off 300 employees here.
An "unprecedented time in the aviation industry with a substantial number of flight reductions" was listed as the reason for the furloughs. Republic filed noticed with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
The layoffs will take effect in October and November and include:
- 132 pilots
- 96 flight attendants
- 12 mechanics
- 4 material specialists
- 40 employees at company headquarters
Republic operates flights for major U.S. airlines under the American Eagle, Delta Connection and United Express brandings. It has about 6,5000 employees.
