INDIANAPOLIS Community Health is joining IU Health in asking for public donations of certain medical supplies as hospitals in the Indianapolis area prepare for a possible influx of coronavirus patients.

According to Community Health's Kris Kirschner, donations of the following items will help to ensure the safety of caregivers and their patients.

  • Gloves
  • Gowns
  • Aprons
  • Masks
  • Respirators
  • Face shields
  • Wipes and other antibacterial products

More specifics on how and where to donate is available on this website: https://www.ecommunity.com/givePPE

All in-kind donations will be recognized by the Community Health Network Foundation in accordance with the United States Internal Revenue Service charitable giving guidelines.

“The gracious outpouring from the public to donate or manufacture PPE is truly heartfelt,” said Community Health Network Vice President of Business Development Wendy Horn. “During critical times, it’s reassuring to know we have partners in the community who are willing to help in supporting our mission of putting patients first. To ensure our patients get the best care and our caregivers are fully protected, more must be done.”

IU Health is also accepting donations of certain supplies from the public, and that includes homemade face masks.

Spokesman Jonathon Hosea shared this lists of needs with RTV6:

  • Respiratory mask, including industrial N95 and N99 masks
  • Facial and eye protection
  • Hand sanitizer with 70% alcohol content
  • General personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves and observation gowns

"The IU Health Supply Chain Operations team will work directly with individuals and companies to assess each donation, including homemade face masks," said Hosea.
