INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis company is seeking to change how COVID-19 testing is done.

Aria Diagnostics is working on a saliva test. Saliva testing is seen as an easier way to get samples from people than the current nasal test, which some people have said is uncomfortable.

The nasal test is a standard method for health providers nationwide to determine COVID-19. This sort of testing is typically used during drive-through testing venues.

Aria Diagnostics believes saliva testing is possible.

"The real reason it's a game-changer is one it's noninvasive, and it gets to go to markets where we may not have medical staff to institute nasal forensics swab, so that's huge," Zak Khan, co-founder of Aria Diagnostics, said.

Aria Diagnostics is hoping to share developments on the potential for saliva tests in a matter of weeks.
