Virtual "town hall" meeting planned to discuss and answer pandemic questions

INDIANAPOLIS -- Giving updated information and dispelling myths about the coronavirus pandemic is the goal of a virtual "town hall" meeting organized by the Indianapolis Recorder.

The event, to be held Thursday at 2 p.m. on the Recorder's Facebook page (Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper), features experts who will discuss the impact of the pandemic on the African American communities of central Indiana.

The panel will include:

  • Dr. Virginia Caine, Director, Marion County Public Health Department
  • Alessia Johnson, IPS Superintendent
  • Ann Murtlow, President & CEO, United Way of Central Indiana
  • Vop Osili, President, Indianapolis City-County Council
  • Fred Payne, Commissioner, Department of Workforce Development

The panel has been assembled by the Recorder in conjunction with Next Generation Initiative and InnoPower.

Topics to be discussed include health, education, child care, and jobs.

The discussion will look at ways to avoid contracting the virus, the latest measures enacted by state and city leaders, local testing sites, how to keep children safe, support resources, and what to do if your job is temporarily suspended.
