INDIANAPOLIS — The Eli Lilly Co. will offer expanded drive-thru testing for COVID-19, making the testing available to first responders beginning on Tuesday.

On Monday, the company began offering the drive-thru testing for active front-line healthcare workers, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health care professionals.

"Lilly is doing everything we can to attack this global pandemic, and we're committed to help slow the spread of the virus here in our home community," David A. Ricks, Lilly's chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement. "By expanding testing to first-line responders, we hope to help protect the people that we rely on for the safety of us all."

The additional group eligible for testing include first-line responders in the city of Indianapolis such as public safety, fire and ambulance public servants, Lilly said in the release.

"SAince the beginning of this national emergency, the Marion County Public Health Department has been working diligently to expand testing in Indianapolis," Mayor Joe Hogsett said. "We are grateful Lilly has stepped forward to ensure that local first responders have access to drive-thru testing, as well as for the company's continued commitment to our city."

  • The company said the drive-thru COVID-19 testing is not yet available to the general public.
