INDIANAPOLIS — Marion County will not provide an exemption to allow for in-person religious services this weekend, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said Wednesday.
The announcement is stricter than Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb’s plan, which allowed for in-person religious services beginning on May 8.
“I look forward to the time when I can once again walk through the doors of my home church, Roberts Park United Home Methodist Church, in downtown Indianapolis,” Hogsetts aid. “But it is in our faith that we find our strength. And I will call upon that strength for at least another week.”
Hogsett also said the county’s stay-at-home order will stay in place until May 15. Holcomb’s latest executive order allows for Marion County to reopen on May 11.
Holcomb said local governments can have stricter regulations than the state.
