Gary man accused in string of 8 armed robberies in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Bloomington Police Department has arrested a 23-year-old Gary, Indiana, man in connection with a string of armed robberies in Monroe County.

Police say Deandre LeShone Williams, 23, was responsible for an armed robbery at the Big Red Liquor store located at 2401 W. Third Street in Bloomington.

Following his arrest, police said Williams admitted to being responsible for six other robberies which occurred between October and December 2016. Those robberies were:

  • Candlewood Suites, 1935 S. Basswood Dr. on October 3, 2016
  • Pizza X, 877 S. College Mall Road on October 8, 2016
  • Flip Laundry, 411 S. Woodscrest Drive on October 14, 2016
  • Pizza X, 877 S. College Mall Road on November 27, 2016
  • Village Pantry, 1307 W. Third Street on December 4, 2016
  • Crescent Donut, 231 S. Adams Street on December 12, 2016

Police said they suspect Williams in at least one other robbery as well.

Williams lives in Gary and was on parole at the time of the robberies for a prior armed robbery charge. Police believe he was traveling to Bloomington frequently to visit his girlfriend.
