KOKOMO, Ind. – A Kokomo police officer was charged Wednesday with obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deceit.

According to court documents, Officer Heath Evans helped a woman fill a prescription for Fentanyl patches around December 2016.

The woman told detectives there are always two boxes in each prescription. When she asked Officer Evans about the unstapled medication bag containing only one box of Fentanyl, Evans said, “That’s what they gave me.”

Evans was also charged with possession of a narcotic drug and theft.

A warrant for Evans’ arrest was issued March 8 and his bond was set at $10,000. He is expected to appear in court March 16.

Prosecutor Mark McCann says the case is still under investigation and anyone with information should contact the Kokomo Police Department or the Howard County Prosecutor's Office.
