INDIANAPOLIS – The family of the pregnant woman who was shot and killed Thursday on the city’s west side said the day they found out their loved one died was, “the worst day of their lives.”
Brittany McNew’s family said the 18-year-old was raised with love, but got involved with the wrong crowd.
“All I know is Brittany was at the wrong place at the wrong time, with the wrong people,” said her mother Jennifer Lee.
The incident happened in the morning at a home on Michigan Street. McNew died at the hospital hours later. Her mother called the home where McNew was shot at a “drug house” but noted that her daughter was not a drug user.
“This wasn't her life. We need justice,” said Lee. “They didn't come to kill her. Please, somebody knows something.”
Lee said the family tried to protect McNew from the wrong crowd.
“We all knew he was no good for her. She didn't see it. She was just young,” she said. “Everybody knew Brittany was going to be a mom. She was so happy.”
McNew’s family said she had desires to become a nurse in the future.
“I hope whoever knows who did this to our baby helps us get justice for Brittany,” said Lee.
Indianapolis police said they do not have any suspect information, but McNew's family remains confident an arrest will be made.
