OWEN CO. — Police arrested two people in connection to an alleged cockfighting ring in Owen County on Tuesday, according to the Owen County Humane Society.

In the course of an investigation by the Owen County Sheriff's Department that started on Thursday, detectives located several chickens, roosters, and chicks with injuries known to be equated to animal fighting. Roosters had been "dubbed," which the humane society says is a process when rooster's combs, wattles and earlobes are removed. Birds used for fighting typically have these removed to keep the opposing rooster from grabbing them.

Six roosters, seven hens, and 47 chicks were seized with four of the chickens being deceased. All birds taken will be housed until further order of the court

Detectives also located drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine at the Owen County residence, according to the humane society.

The two owners of the residence are reported to have been arrested and charged.
