PD: Man headbutts, leaves dent on police car

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- A Edinburgh, Indiana man dented a police car with a headbutt after a crash in Columbus Saturday morning, police say.

Officers with the Columbus Police Department were called to the 2400 block of Taylor Road for reports of a crash.Witnesses told police a minivan hit the curb, then the driver got and out tried to run. The driver was restrained by two men who saw the crash.

Off-duty Officer Brian Voyles arrived at the scene and helped the witnesses. 

More officers arrived and restrained the driver, later identified as Derek R. Jordan, 21. Jordan continued to fight with police by striking his head against a patrol car, leaving two dents. 

He was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for treatment, then taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following charges:

  • Bartholomew County Superior Court II Warrant
  • Battery
  • Driving without ever receiving a license
  • Resisting law enforcement
  • Leaving the scene of a property damage crash
  • False informing
