Police: Woman arrested after stealing $1,600 worth of video games, leading police on a chase

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- A woman was arrested Wednesday after stealing more than $1,600 worth of video games from a Best Buy and leading police on a chase in Columbus, Indiana.

Officers with the Columbus Police Department were called to the Best Buy at 1343 N. National Road for a shoplifting suspect who was fleeing the store with more than $1,600 in video games. The suspect, Stevie N. Hammond Badger, 31, was leaving the parking lot when police arrived. 

A chase began when she refused to pull over, police said. 

The chase lasted several minutes as Hammond Badger drove through two yards to evade police. Police terminated the pursuit shortly after it started.

During an investigation, police found her in the 1000 block of Kelli Drive, her residence.

She was taken into custody and faces the following preliminary charges:

  • Resisting law enforcement in a vehicle
  • Theft with a previous conviction
  • Driving while suspended with prior conviction
