KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. – A Knightstown veterinarian faces multiple charges after he was accused of dealing drugs intended for animal use.

Officials at the Henry County Drug Task Force said they have been monitoring Dr. James Wilson, 63, for several years after they received an anonymous tip from a local pharmacy.

Pharmacy employees said Wilson was dispensing narcotics to people instead of animals, a detective on the case said.

The drug prescribed was a form of Xanax which can be given to pets.

All of Wilson’s medications found at his Knightstown clinic were taken, according to the detective.

Wilson was arrested Friday but was released after posting bond.

Detectives said the veterinarian can still practice since he is licensed with the veterinary board, but he does not have a license for prescribing controlled substances.

Wilson is expected to appear in court in late February.
