INDIANAPOLIS -- Dozens of teachers on the west side are kicking off the school year with breakfast and a tour.

MSD of Wayne Township hosted a breakfast for its 83 new teachers Monday to welcome them to the district and introduce them to administrators, the school board and other new teachers.

The district also included a bus tour through different parts of the district including school buildings, homes and businesses.

“We feel it benefits our teachers to see firsthand where their students live and the various businesses and organizations that make up Wayne Township,” said Mary Lang, spokeswoman for MSD of Wayne Township. “Our school district motto is ‘We Are Wayne - Great Schools/Great Community,’ and we truly believe the more connected our schools and community are, the more successful they both will be.

Lang said they also introduce our new teachers to an organization called Teachers' Treasures, which is located on 1800 East 10th St.

“It's an organization that provides supplies for teachers to help them supplement what's in their classrooms,” said Lang.

The first teacher work day is Tuesday, July 24 and the first day for students is Thursday, July 26.
